SPINNAKER YACHT VARNISH

When the wood is to be varnished, it must also be beautiful. Grain, colour, work can only be perfect because there is no chance to hide their defects afterwards.
That’s why varnished wood is said to have the highest beauty and the varnish is to be the best without compromise.
When you admire the brightness and the perfect finish of the boat next to yours it means that SPINNAKER YACHT VARNISH was used.
Wooden boats have always demanded high care and attention, but it is also

certain that the exposed wooden parts (varnished or natural like teak, etc.) have always given, with their carving skills and the perfect choice of the right shades of wood, an impression of the craftsman’s or the boatyard’s capability. Wood is very important and also cannot be substituted in fibreglass or metal boats, and a very successful advertising of a plywood producer says: “How much wood do you need to make a fibreglass boat?” That’s right, because bulkheads, flooring, cupboards, doors, drawers and finish of the decks find in wood the material that offers types and characteristics which put it in the forefront in construction. Furthermore the warmth which emanates, the tonal balance and the natural grains of these essences match well with the marine environment and with nautical and natural items that we are looking for up and down the sea.
Wood doesn't only represent the charm of an old construction, it is also indispensable in fibreglass boats and is an outstanding technical material for its lightness, resistance, flexibility, last but not least it is even sound-insulating, elastic and has a very high resistance level, if well structure it is never tired “it has no memory”; it is a material really impossible to replace.
Being, like we are, very keen on boats, you will certainly know how important it is to choose the right varnish. After all, varnish is the first to be attacked by agents and therefore it has to be resistant, long lasting, easy to apply and obviously 100% marine. For this reason expert sailors have always relied upon and trusted SPINNAKER.
SPINNAKER was tested for millions of nautical miles proving to be the best varnish for all boat and wood types.
SPINNAKER not only protects and seals for the entire year but, by providing a glossy, deep and long lasting finish it enhances the wood's beauty, safely maintaining its beauty over the years.
SPINNAKER knows wood well, and has a very wide range of articles to always meet the most differing needs in the right and professional way.

STANDARD SPINNAKER

STANDARD SPINNAKER is a transparent gloss one-pack varnish, famous all over the world. STANDARD SPINNAKER is easy to use, a very high class product with excellent yield. STANDARD SPINNAKER builds a high gloss, long-lasting film, it doesn't yellow, withstands atmospheric agents, sea salt, and has high yield. It is very economical because of its high yield, its durability over the years, and because it enhances craftsmanship.
STANDARD SPINNAKER is an unbeatable traditional product which never stops surprising. It is called Standard because when it was “born” many years ago, Spinnaker Polyurethane was already around and was already called SPINNAKER, so another name had to be added.

STANDARD SPINNAKER PLUS

STANDARD SPINNAKER PLUS is the SPINNAKER which adds to the famous Standard quality a highly solid film in order to achieve a higher thickness with the same number of coats applied. As all SPINNAKER varnish products is very easy to apply, what allows outstanding results for professional and hobby applications.
Standard Spinnaker PLUS is called this way because our Standard never stops.

SPINNAKER GOLD FASHION cod (coat over dry)

SPINNAKER GOLD FASHION cod (coat over dry) is a transparent brilliant gloss varnish whose special feature is that the following coats, when the previous one is dry (with a time interval not longer than 48 hours in summer and 72 hours in winter) can be applied without sanding (cod - coat over dry) obtaining a perfect cohesion, simplifying a sure work result with a high saving in time.
It can be applied on all previous varnishes and is very suitable for hardwoods like teak, iroko, chestnut, oak etc. With SPINNAKER GOLD FASHION you can save up to 70% in labour-time... its really true.

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE (one-pack gloss)

Exactly the same as STANDARD SPINNAKER (it copies its formulation) in durability and brightness, but has a harder film which is more scratch-resistant (handrails, stringers, mast, boom) and dries in about half the time.
SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE perfectly resolves varnishing in the cold and winter months because more coats can be applied on the same day even in these conditions. It is compatible with existing varnishes even with a different composition.
STANDARD and POLYURETHANE can be applied alternatively.

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE 2

High UV rays protection. Transparent finish super clear. Ideal as protection of transparent epoxy finishing. Specific for 10 10 UV Protection. Compatibility on old monocomponent varnishes applied from aprox. 4 months. We suggest to test first on a little surface.
More coats in the same day. Easy application by brush. High flexibility of the film.
Dilute using SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE 2 THINNER.

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE EGGSHEL matt, one-pack, tixotropic-dense)

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE EGGSHELL (matt, one-pack, thixotropic - dense). Once, in order to give a warmer appearance to the interiors, with very fine sanding paper we used to sand down the furniture and the walls treat them with bright copal resin and finish them with oils and waxes.
SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE EGGSHELL sorted out this problem years ago in the most outstanding, economical and easiest manner. SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE EGGSHELL gives wood a fantastic silkiness maintaining the warm interior colours unchanged, eliminating light reflections and reverberations. Thanks to its adhesiveness it can also be applied on gloss surfaces already treated with other products. On new, particularly porous wood, you obtain an unbeatable high-class finish with three coats.
SPINNAKER EGGSHELL is not only very suitable for interior woods because its matt colour eliminates reflections and covers small work imperfections, it is resistant to boiling water, hot surfaces, cosmetics, alcohol and it can be mixed with gloss types in order to obtain a less matt finish. It can also be applied outside.

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE SATIN (semi-gloss one-pack thixotropic -
dense)

SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE SATIN has characteristics and uses similar to EGGSHELL but, when dry its surface appears less opaque bringing the wood grain more to the fore. Also SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE SATIN is ideal at withstanding heat shocks from plates and hot surfaces, boiling water, resistant to cosmetics, alcohol etc. SPINNAKER POLYURETHANE SATIN guarantees always the same tone intensity even in retouches.

SPINNAKER WOOD PROTECTION

is an innovative product in the field of protecting and highlighting wood. Spinnaker Wood Protection doesn't need to be applied thickly as it is rich in UV filters to protect and underline the beauty of the wood's colour. Penetrates deeply into the wood fibre, dries easily and it isn't necessary to sand between coats.
Its own light colour makes it ideal also for successive varnishing.
The second coat mat be applied in the same day and the next on the second day and the wood can be walked on. Spinnaker Wood Protection is also highly suitable for the dents that expose the wood to bad weather and can be covered afterwards with the whole range of Spinnaker varnish products.

SPINNAKER WOOD LIFE

SPINNAKER WOOD LIFE contains a special mixture of products using an exclusive formula that more than just forming a barrier against all external atmospheric agents (heat, cold, frost, sun, rain, snow, smog, etc.) revitalizes and protects the wood in an endogenous way, against attacks by destructive organisms such as woodworms, longhorn beetles, blue mould fungus, rot and decomposition processes in general. Its ideal for the easy maintenance of chalets, wooden fences, pergolas and for the protection of window and door fittings, doors and all garden furniture in wood. SPINNAKER WOOD LIFE doesn't peel because it doesn't form a 'skin', is not sanded between coats, and when necessary, after years, just apply another protective coat, it is sufficient to wash and then rinse it with a Scotch Brite 3M type sponge using the rough side.

TRANSPARENT VARNISHES
on new or fully stripped wood, and on old varnishes.

Sand down with 240 to 280 paper in the wood grain direction, check (for the surfaces themselves, such as handrails, deckhouses, sides, etc.) that the joins are perfectly efficient (that there are no infiltrations partially hidden by residue from old varnish).
Ensure that the wood moisture content is within the limits foreseen by the naval Registers (maximum advisable limit 12 to 15%). Apply the first coat of SPINNAKER diluted according to the type by 10% to 50%. Ensure to especially well protect the end grain because the wood fibres absorb much more at these points. When dry, sand down lightly and uniformly (320 to 360 paper) to eliminate the “wood hairs” that have stood up, because of the soaking, roughening the surface. From now on apply further undiluted coats, sanding lightly between coats with 400/500 paper (SPINNAKER GOLD FASHION doesn't need sanding in between when applied in the foreseen times).
Before applying each following coat go over lightly with an anti-dust cloth (see list) to eliminate any possible contamination. Varnishing and painting must always be made in shaded places, at warm temperatures with a light exchange of air. If carried out under the sun you can get pin-holing, bubbles, bad cohesion between coats and so compromise the work. The number of coats to apply varies according to the thickness of each one, the quality of the wood, where the work is (inside or out) but when we talk about new or fully stripped wood it needs at least 5 to 6 coats for a good aesthetic result.
On varnished wood in good condition it is sufficient to sand with 400 paper applying at least 2 or 3 coats of the SPINNAKER YACHT VARNISH type preferred. In re-varnishing the interior, when you use the EGGSHELL or SATIN type, the number of coats is always around half.
When the wood shows small splits, cracks or stress it is advisable to "weld" these areas with a coat of C-systems' 10 10 CFS which is finely sanded before the final applications of SPINNAKER YACHT VARNISH.
Stained wood, when fully stripped, can be de-stained with Teak Powder Cleaner and allowed to fully dry before starting the new varnishing.
When during re-varnishing it is necessary to colour, accentuate, or make uniform the wood colours, C-Legno 2, colours red cedar or dark walnut (also mixable between themselves to obtain tones more fitting for the work we are making) are the professional answer, easily applied to obtain great results.
C-Legno 2 anti-woodworm (colourless) when we have the need to restore wood with parasites and fungus present, its the right answer to this problem. Can be applied by brush in the direction of the grain, leave to dry for several days and then cover as described above. The C-Legno 2 protection works extremely deep, because it is formulated to have a strong soaking power therefore also the most concealed wood “draw it in through capillary action" the protective action of C-Legno 2.
